Media Still Can’t Get Van Jones Issue Straight

Written by lizbetty on September 7th, 2009

The good news is he resigned. The bad news is the rest of the world still doesn’t know about it or even the real reasons behind it.  And that is really, really bad news. What they’re going to hear is the same old malarkey about Jones calling the Republicans a bad name (oh, his bad) and the much worse and indeed resignation worthy, 9/11 Truther petition he committed his already much sullied name to. What they won’t hear  is that Van Jones was deeply involved in a number of radical movements including the Ella Baker center where he recorded and released music videos that contain lyrics that are deeply offensive to US policy as well as deeply racist.  What they won’t hear is that he was also a member of S.T.O.R.M, a radical Marxist group that vowed to ‘end the reign of US imperialism.’ What they won’t hear is that Jones was an avowed communist and that he was present at the shut down of the WTO in 1999. What they won’t hear is that this man believes things that the majority of us do not believe, that he had the capability of enacting policy that we do not want enacted. What they won’t hear is that he was given power without being questioned. They will not hear these things.

Now, Van Jones is allowed to believe whatever he wants. He can pursue any political agenda he feels like, he may protest, he may organize, sign petitions, he may even make as many offensive, racist videos as he wants to. This is America and despite what people in the PC movement would like to think, all speech is free not just speech that they OK. This is an important part of the very foundation of our country and I cannot emphasize that enough. However, the caveat here is that Van Jones was not voted into office by the American people. We did not give our OK for his ideals, his agenda to be a part of our agenda. He was neither vetted, nor OK’d  by our elected representatives to serve in our government. His ideals are not our ideals and that is a very important factor. No one should be in a position of power in our government that was not put there by the people of this country and how we came about having all of these Czars, advisors and other extracurricular offices is just a teensy bit suspicious to me. It feels just a bit like someone’s trying to make an end run around the Constitution and its about time we did away with all of them, and pronto.

If it had not been for the tenacity of one man, Van Jones just might have stayed in office.  At the end of the day the facts remain that mainstream media has lost all journalistic integrity, Van Jones slipped under our noses because they are little better than the average press release.  There was no questioning of the powers that be and in light of that we must all be constantly on guard. We must put the questions to those in power, but we must also know what questions to ask and we must be willing to act if we do not like the answers. It is up to us to safeguard our country, democracy and freedom do not come cheaply.
