Zenyatta! The Greatest Filly of the Century

Written by lizbetty on November 7th, 2009

Zenyatta at Breeders CupZenyatta Mondatta, indeed!

Zenyatta, the 13 time undefeated filly took on the boys today. They said she couldn’t do, they said  she was out of her class, but boy oh boy, were they ever wrong! Not only did this  beautiful and graceful super-horse keep up with the boys, she ran circles around them. And this was not just  any old set of   colts either, this group included the winners of the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, the ‘08 Santa Anita Stakes, the ‘09 Santa Anita Handicap, the ‘09 Pacific Classic, and a host of other G1 stakes.  The two winners from the world famous triple crown series could do no better than Summerbird’s third place, Mine That Bird was nowhere to be seem. Kinda makes you wonder if this mare could have been the  first ‘girl’ to take the Triple Crown? The only horse she has never beaten or raced against from that group is  that ‘other’ super-horse, Rachel Alexandra. Kinda funny to think that the two greatest horses in America  are both fillies. What a change in horse racing.

Many in the sporting world were hoping for a match race between the two great mares, but Rachel  Alexandra’s connections bowed out, claiming they didn’t want to race her on the synthetic track and  actually, who can blame Rachel Alexandra for not showing up? After all, Zenyatta is undefeated on the  synthetics, well to be honest she’s undefeated, period, something the east coast filly can’t claim.

Zenyatta asserted her utter dominance of the Sport of Kings in characteristic fashion, she unleashed her amazing speed and enormous stride coming down the stretch, picking the boys off one by one as she did so. She not only came from behind to win the race, but she won by a full length, leaving no doubt as to who was the best of the best. No one watching that amazing rally could deny they were in the presence of greatness. This is a race that will go down in the record books.

Now, can anyone say ‘Horse of the Year’ ?
